As a latest example of the inter-connected ties maintaining global trade, efforts are being made to release the stranded tanker currently blocking the Suez Canal. The Canal is a key trading route for global trade. The only alternative facing merchant fleets is to travel 3,000 miles around Africa, clearly at enormous cost.
